The origins of backgammon go back over 5000 years BC. Backgammon in the 1930s was extremely popular among upper middle class and play as a hobby in private clubs. The severe economic problems during the Great Depression in the U.S. economy caused the backgammon lost some popularity. The Second World War and the 1950s were not good for backgammon.

Backgammon's popularity grew again during 1960 and 1970. Russian Prince Alexis Obelensky was the main engine behind this renaissance thanks to its great efforts to promote international tournaments like the World Backgammon Championship in the Bahamas, the highest title in the world of backgammon. Oby, as affectionately referred to him was awarded the presidency of the World Backgammon Club for life until his death in 1986 at the age of 71.

In the 1970s it began to publish books of rules and strategies of backgammon, magazines devoted to this game and even articles appeared in newspapers of the time with interesting stories about backgammon. This fame was that the game was done extremely popular among young people and working classes in the United States and Europe, which until then had not paid much attention. Unfortunately, the 1980s were not good for the backgammon because of video games and consoles. Backgammon Rules

Backgammon is a game for two people. It is played on a board with 24 triangles or squares, separated into four parts of six boxes each, with two dice (1 to 6) and 15 chips per player.

The first six squares on the board starting with your right correspond to the "board of player" and the following six correspond to "external board player." Continuing clockwise the clock there's the outside of rival board, located outside in front of your board, and finally is the "board of rival", right in front of your board of player.

The initial placement of the chips is as follows:
